A person who was previously married must bring a final divorce decree or death certificate.

The divorce decree proves the Superior Court judgment that ended the marriage and may include custody, support, and property orders.

Both are in the Government Center, but on different floors and with different phone contacts. Calling the right office saves time because Probate Court staff cannot issue divorce decrees, and the Superior Court Clerk does not process marriage-license applications.
