Muscogee County Superior Court Overview
Georgia uses Superior Court as the general jurisdiction trial court. In Muscogee County, Superior Court is part of the Chattahoochee Judicial Circuit, a six-county circuit that also includes Chattahoochee, Harris, Marion, Talbot, and Taylor counties. Chattahoochee Judicial Circuit
The Chattahoochee Judicial Circuit is a regional Superior Court circuit, not a Muscogee-only court system. The circuit structure is important because the judges and District Attorney serve across multiple west Georgia counties, while local files for Muscogee County are still handled through the Muscogee County Clerk of Superior & State Courts. The official research lists seven Superior Court judges: Chief J. Arthur L. Smith, Judge Bobby G. Peters, Judge Gil McBride, Judge Maureen Gottfried, Judge John T. Martin, Judge Ben Richardson, and Judge Carolyn C. Burch.
Superior Court case records can include felony indictments, accusations, arraignment entries, motions, plea forms, verdicts, sentencing orders, probation terms, bond records, civil complaints, divorce pleadings, child-custody orders, land-title filings, and appeal records. Superior Court vs State Court
Muscogee County has both Superior Court and State Court at the Government Center. They are not interchangeable. Superior Court handles felony, domestic, equity, land-title, and certain appeal matters. State Court handles misdemeanors, appeals from lower courts, and civil cases without a monetary limit except that it does not handle title to real property, domestic relations, or equity. State Court also becomes important when a Recorder's Court traffic defendant demands a jury trial and the case is bound over.

Muscogee County Lower Courts
Lower local courts often create the first record before a matter reaches Superior Court. Magistrate Court handles civil cases up to $15,000, garnishments up to $15,000, dispossessory cases, and abandoned motor vehicle or mobile home matters. Municipal Court handles criminal committal functions except certain guilty pleas and sentences, civil cases up to $15,000, garnishments, writs of possession, bad-check warrants, abandonment warrants, and distress warrants. Recorder's Court handles traffic and ordinance matters, and Juvenile Court handles dependency, CHINS, delinquency, and youth traffic matters with confidentiality limits.
